The Pithy Take

The National Museum of the American Indian is a cultural and educational entity. They care for one of the world’s largest collections of Native artifacts, such as objects and photographs, spanning the entire Western Hemisphere. Their goal is to preserve Native history and bring Native voices to everything NMAI writes and presents, and to serve as a resource for the hemisphere’s Native communities.

There are three physical locations: the museum on the National Mall in D.C., the George Gustave Heye Center in NYC, and the Cultural Resources Center in Suitland, Maryland. They also have a website, which showcases their collections, conservation, and archive center, as well as an education center with lessons and resources.
