Foundation, the television series (streaming on Apple TV+), is based on Issac Asimov’s famous science-fiction Foundation series. Mathematician Hari Seldon develops the theory of psychohistory, which can be used to predict the future of large populations. Seldon predicts that the Empire will fall, but to soften the blow, creates the Foundation, a group of exiles who search for ways to save the Galactic Empire and preserve the spirit of civilization.
The series touches upon many points discussed in The Black Swan–the complexity of knowledge, the difficulty of prediction, the impact of highly improbable events, and the human struggle with all three.
